About the Role
We're looking for a Manager, People & Culture to lead the human resources function for our Nova Scotia operations. Reporting to the VP, Operations, this is a hands-on, standalone HR leadership role — you'll own everything from recruitment and employee relations to health & safety culture and HR compliance across our office, mill, and field-based teams. This is a great fit for an HR generalist who wants full ownership of the people function in an industrial, resource-based environment, without layers of bureaucracy slowing things down.
Key Responsibilities
Lead full-cycle recruitment for corporate, mill, and field roles, including seasonal and skilled-trades hiring specific to forestry operations.
Act as the primary point of contact for employee relations, coaching supervisors and site leads on performance management, conflict resolution, and progressive discipline.
Partner with operations leadership to build and reinforce a strong safety culture, working alongside the Health & Safety team to align HR practices with the Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act and WCB Nova Scotia requirements.
Own HR compliance and policy administration in line with the Nova Scotia Labour Standards Code, Human Rights Act, and applicable federal and provincial employment legislation.

Administer compensation, benefits, and payroll-adjacent processes; benchmark roles against industry and regional data.
Develop and deliver onboarding, training, and succession-planning programs for both salaried staff and unionized or field-based crews.
Champion employee engagement and retention initiatives suited to a distributed, operations-heavy workforce (site visits, shift schedules, remote crews).
Maintain HRIS records, generate workforce reporting, and support budgeting for headcount and labour costs.
Support labour relations and collective agreement administration where applicable.
Promote a respectful, inclusive workplace culture consistent with company values and Nova Scotia Human Rights Act obligations.
What You Bring
5–7 years of progressive HR generalist or HR management experience, ideally in forestry, natural resources, manufacturing, or another industrial/field-operations setting.
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business, or a related field; CPHR designation (or working toward one) is an asset.
Solid working knowledge of Nova Scotia employment legislation, including the Labour Standards Code and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Comfort working both in an office setting and on-site at mills or in the field — this role requires regular travel within Nova Scotia.
Experience supporting a unionized or seasonal workforce is an asset, though not required.
Strong judgment and discretion handling confidential employee matters, with a practical, relationship-first approach to HR.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trust quickly with frontline crews, site supervisors, and senior leadership alike.
Proficiency with HRIS and standard office software; experience with payroll systems is an asset.
Valid driver's licence, as travel to operational sites is a regular part of this role.
What We Offer
Competitive salary and benefits package.
A genuine seat at the leadership table — this role shapes how people are hired, developed, and supported across the business.
The opportunity to build the people function in a growing, community-rooted Nova Scotia employer.
