Analyst, Commercial Mortgages Position Overview The Analyst, Commercial Mortgages will support the underwriting, due diligence, funding, and portfolio management of commercial real estate mortgage transactions. This role is suited to someone with strong analytical discipline, sound judgment, and an interest in commercial real estate finance. The Analyst will work closely with senior team members across deal execution, credit analysis, borrower due diligence, market research, and internal reporting. The role requires attention to detail, strong financial modelling skills, and the ability to manage multiple transactions in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Transaction Analysis & Underwriting Support the underwriting of commercial mortgage opportunities across asset classes, including multifamily, industrial, retail, office, mixed-use, and land or construction-related transactions. Review borrower information, property-level financials, rent rolls, appraisals, environmental reports, market data, and other diligence materials. Prepare financial analysis, including debt service coverage, loan-to-value, loan-to-cost, debt yield, cash flow, sensitivity analysis, and borrower capacity. Assist in preparing credit submissions, investment memoranda, and recommendations for internal approval. Identify key transaction risks, mitigants, and structural considerations. Due Diligence & Deal Execution Coordinate due diligence materials required for loan approval, funding, renewals, assumptions, amendments, and refinancings. Liaise with borrowers, brokers, legal counsel, consultants, and internal stakeholders to support transaction execution. Review third-party reports and summarize key findings for the deal team. Track outstanding diligence items and ensure files are complete, organized, and accurate. Support closing processes, including funding documentation, conditions precedent, and internal approvals. Portfolio & Market Support Assist with ongoing portfolio monitoring, including borrower updates, covenant tracking, maturity schedules, reporting requirements, and risk assessments. Support renewals, annual reviews, amendments, and ad hoc portfolio requests. Conduct market research on commercial real estate trends, comparable transactions, cap rates, rents, vacancy, and local economic conditions. Maintain internal databases, pipeline trackers, and reporting materials. Relationship & Internal Support Work collaboratively with origination, underwriting, credit, servicing, and asset management teams. Provide analytical support for client meetings, lender/investor updates, and internal presentations. Develop a strong understanding of commercial mortgage products, borrower needs, capital sources, and transaction structures. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Real Estate, Accounting, or a related field. 1–2 years of experience in commercial real estate, lending, mortgage underwriting, banking, credit analysis, investment analysis, or a related financial services role. Strong financial analysis and modelling skills. Proficiency in Excel; experience with Argus, CoStar, Salesforce, or mortgage/loan servicing platforms is an asset. Strong written and verbal communication skills. High attention to detail and ability to synthesize complex information clearly. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple files and deadlines. Interest in commercial real estate finance, lending, and credit.
